Adventures in Pinhole Photography

I've been a working photographer for 16 years now - and like any other passion, it must be infused with a certain newness every now and again.

I love what I do, I love the technicalities of creating a great photograph, but sometimes it's nice to allow the technical side of my brain to take a vacation...and that's just what I found when I stepped into the magical world of pinhole photography.

Granted there are plenty of technicalities to know in order to craft a great pinhole image, but there's something more magical, more special about the pinhole adventure. You can expose correctly and do all the "right" things, but the final image is always a surprise. And that's what I love about it.

Over the last few weeks I've been experimenting with the pinhole, and I am so pleased with the results. They are otherworldly, dreamy representations of reality. Which, in essence, is why I create art or photographs in the first place. Enjoy!

The Omnific Society to Hold its First Art Show
"I’m Not Angry, I’m Just Full of Power" October 10, 2009

CULVER CITY, Calif. —The Omnific Society, a group of local artists, will hold its first group art show on October 10, 2009 at the Zakheim Art Conservation Studio in Culver City, CA.

The show entitled ‘I’m Not Angry, I’m Just Full of Power’ will showcase the art of each member, in various mediums, from paintings and photography to both written and spoken word as well as design and one-of-a-kind jewelry.

Liz Huston, Photographer and Founder of the Omnific Society explains that ‘I’m Not Angry, I’m Just Full of Power’ will itself represent the omnificence of the group.

“Our first art show, ‘I’m Not Angry, I’m Just Full of Power’ shows the true diversity of our group,” she says. “All of us come from such different walks of life and have very distinct artistic voices, yet we share a common bond—as beings we need to continue releasing our creativity.”

The Omnific Society, which formed in January 2009, was started by Huston as a way for her artistic and creative friends to gain inspiration from as well as to hold one another accountable to personal goals.

“It’s far too easy to let life get in the way of your art,” Huston continues. “Together we’ve been able to support and inspire each other while checking in to share progress toward personal goals we set at the beginning of the year. We’ve each been through a lot and it’s easy to get angry or bitter; as a group, the Omnific Society proves you can channel the negative energy from day to day life into something positive.”
